“A stranger is just a friend I haven’t met yet.”

– Will Rogers

A couple of weeks ago, I was on a train heading into the city. The woman sitting across from me was like a breath of fresh air. She was in her mid twenties and instead of being swallowed up by her phone, she had the sweetest smile as she sat and crocheted. I was intrigued. It didn’t take long before I found out that Jen had taken a year off university to explore, pursue some of her passions and dive a little deeper into the meaning of her life. Although crocheting was an unexpected discovery, she has taken her love for it and incorporates it into her work with challenged youths.

We open heartedly shared and noticed our similar beliefs about the importance of living from your heart, connecting with others in meaningful ways, as well as making time to connect to your inner essence. I was so wrapped up in our conversation, that without me realising, between the last two stops, Jen crocheted a heart. She gave it to me with a hug, such a perfect gift to remember our beautiful 15 minute train ride.

Remember to stay open and present. You never know what beautiful moments of connection you might have when you smile at a stranger.

With love,

Ingrid
